One could wait forever.

Would it not be more appropriate to develop an open architecture that 
is extensible, and a framework within which evolutionary standards 
could be managed.

Saying that waiting a little is desirable could equally be applied to 
the Internet. Why bother with e-mail and crude HTTP implementations, 
when we all knew that eventually it will be possible to deliver audio 
and video when broadband matured.

The real issue is enabling innovation, as opposed to protecting 
entrenched legacies.
