How absurd.

Can you imagine anyone using MPEG-2 in 25-30 years?

You must be caught in some kind of time warp Doug. This is 2005, not 1955.

The POINT IS Doug that you do not build a critical infrastructure for
digital mass communications and then freeze the technology. We are
not stuck building an end-to-end CLOSED system, as was necessary when
NTSC was conceived. We have already built an infrastructure that
transports bits - not real well, but in principle, it does not matter.

Try telling people that it was wrong to allow the Internet to be open
to innovation. That we did not need the World Wide Web, or video
streaming, or the ability to share digital photos and music. In your
world we would all still be using IBM PC ATs - it was the "standard"
that launched a thousand companies (actually tens of thousands).
Surely it must be good for 25-30 years.

Craig
