Quoting:

"The Consumer Electronics Association collects data from dealers
every week and puts out reports showing what the dealers are
buying. So far this year sales of digital sets are down. As of
November 4, dealers had bought 3,491,513 digital sets from
manufacturers. Last year at this point they had bought 3,550,291
digital sets. That's a drop of 1.7 percent.

"During the same period, dealers purchased 13,950,023 analog
direct-view sets, 13.3 percent fewer than in 2004."

End quote.

So to me, it looks like "digital TVs" are replacing analog ones.
The drop in "digital TVs" was almost insignificant, I'd bet it's
noise level, compared with the drop in analog TVs.

Quoting some more:

"Most interesting to me are these conclusions derived from the
CEA figures. So far this year, 21 percent of all TV sets sold
have been digital. But for the most recent week, ending Nov. 4,
the percentage was just 20 percent.

"This is just one week, and the difference is almost meaningless.
But that, plus the drop in overall sales, does show that the
public is not running en masse, in every greater numbers, to buy
digital televisions."

End quote.

All the more reason for CE vendors to provide STBs as a
short-term transition measure to DTT. Maybe consumers are showing
some discretion in how they spend their disposable income.
Imagine that.
