That 8-VSB work was followed by a brief stint with the ATSC ad-hoc group on VSB performance, where some of us tried to shed some honest light on the good, the bad and the ugly of 8-VSB reception and DTV system design issues (Longley-Rice, OET-69, etc.). As far as I can tell, very little progress has been made in the 4+ years since the ad-hoc group finished its work. Very little, except for longer pre-echo coverage in 8-VSB equalizers and a wild turkey called E-VSB -- which, thankfully, seems to have been stillborn. FCC mandate or not, 8-VSB receivers are still not ready for mass consumer deployment, IMHO. -- Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
