[opendtv] Re: 20040921 Twang's Tuesday Tribune (Mark's Monday Memo)

Hi,

Prin should be the one telling you this...
- The original camera negative is treated like gold, NOBODY
gets their hands on it. And besides, it does not even look
like the final film because the color timing has not yet
been done on it. (But that can be done electronically now.)
- In (multi-gen.) copying to positives, almost half of the
resolution is lost. It is no longer the original quality...
- During projection, the dyes are bleached by the intensity
of the projector lamp (e.g. 7 kW), so after the first few
days the positive is no longer of high quality either.
- The reality is: "analog cinema" has sub-HDTV quality.
Therefore, today's HDTV has nothing to be ashamed of...

Cheers,
-- Jeroen.
