You are absolutely correct Jeroen.The reality is that most 35mm 
material is shot in a manner that does not produce a great deal of 
high frequency details...unless you are counting film grains.

But it is possible to shoot with stocks and lenses that do capture 
significantly more detail than is possible with today's HDTV cameras.

I also agree with Alan Roberts. Film - especially 35mm - is used to 
obtain a desired look. Cinematographers go out of their way to avoid 
capturing high levels of detail.
