If somewhere upwards of half of new TV buyers are buying sets with DTT
reception capability, it seems very, very unlikely that virtually none have
even tried OTA reception. If problems were prevalent at all, there would be
a hue and cry, even if only a small percentage bothered to try. People are
always happy to put on great shows of high indignation, especially if "the
govt" forced them to shell out bucks they figure they could have saved.
Journalists would be all over such a "story."

The simple fact is, just like those tests of LG 5th gen PC cards showed,
reception of DTT is not nearly as problematic as it used to be. If those
cards could receive, with indoor antenna, in a straightforward manner,
Baltimore stations from Northern VA, the only sensible conclusion is that
indoor reception of local stations isn't such a big ordeal. And as far as we
have been able to determine, all integrated receivers these days are of
quality that easily rivals the LG 5th gen demods.

I think the sensible conclusion is that DTT reception is/will be just as
non-newsworthy as reception of NTSC OTA broadcasts has been.

The few personal accounts I heard on DTT reception with new integrated sets
is that it far surpasses that of any STB available, both in terms of range
and in terms of antenna aim criticality.
