Check out the source code using :ext: instead of :pserver:, then it
ought to work.
ie:
export CVS_RSH=ssh
cvs -z3 -d :ext:mikew@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/cvsroot/open-beos
co openbeos/whateverpath
