I supose you mean disk system name by `partition type' (the partition 
type would be what Tyler named kPartitionTypeFAT32 for instance). I 
don't think, it is necessary to enumerate those types. The partition 
will be labeled with the exact type, and, given a 
BPartition::GetDiskSystem(), we also know the disk system for a 
partition.

I think, one would initialize with the FAT FS and parameters like "fat-
type = 32". The GUI add-on for FAT would offer the selection of the 
type.
