Ok ran some tests
running net_stack_tester without disabling my network card results in
this error being displayed
Unable to open /dev/net/rtl8139/0, -1 [General OS error]
So I think the driver is fine (ie it cannot open the device a second
time)
Running ifconfig without export NET_STACK_DRIVER_PATH=/dev/net/server
is what causes the kernal to crash hard.
