[openbeosnetteam] Special Ops Team Bring News of Attrocities...

"The net team may have been quiet, but that's when most people are most
worried... In order to answer the doubts people had a crack squad of cuddly
toys was dispatched under cover of darkness to investigate. This is their
chilling report. Viewer discretion is advised."

"All appeared to be normal on reaching the site of the suspected troubles,
but it quickly became apparent something horrible was being done here",
reported the team leader (Snugglekins to those who know him well). He went
on to describe the scene. "Where previously had been a number of computers
communicating happily using ethernet we were horrified to find that some had
suffered real cruelty and had their ethernet cables removed. Even more
cruelly in most cases the cables were left lying in sight of these poor
disconnected computers."

The story was taken up by the other team member (Goldie to his friends). "We
managed to avoid detection and made contact with the Sony Vaio, but were
initially confused by his refusal of our help. He carefully explained that
this was indeed the scene of dramatic experimentation. Attempts were being
made to attach him to the collective using a serial cable and the PPP
protocol!"

Snugglekins carries on this heroic story. "Fearing that this might be the
start of something horrible we made urgent enquiries to determine the level
of progress. We're happy to report that to date the progress is slight,
though the potential now seems to exist for faster improvements as the work
has led to modular PPP, where each of the control protocols and devices are
created in separate modules that should eventually lead to a server that can
be upgraded while running."

Goldie finishes the report thus. "Given the frightening possibility that
OpenBeOS could soon have this devastating capability we have remained in the
area to report further. Stay tuned"

We're sure you'll all agree, this is indeed worrying news... We were lucky
enough to obtain this picture (grainy) of the gallant duo in their new
hiding place... http://beos.jetnet.co.uk/network/special_ops.jpg
