Well, maybe it could be interesting to test with the Be Inc rtl8139 binary
driver available on BeBits. We're supposed to be binary compatible with
/dev/net/*/* ethernet drivers. I used their driver with BONE for years without
any issue.
I've never done such test under native haiku, but did some under BONE, with the
userland version and the kernel one. At this time, it was working.
Darn, i didn't switch out of digest mode fast enough before you sent
your reply...
In any case, I *have* tried this with 2 different R5 drivers: ec9xx
and 3c920 (Patrick's driver from bebits) while trying to get my 3c905B
working in Haiku.
The ec9xx came from my R5+BONE BeOS Max install - and it loaded and
configured fine - but didn't actually work for anything.
The 3c920 actually KDL'd with a simple ls /dev/net - which may be a
bug in the driver.
I will have to try with a couple more drivers to see if I have similar results.
This is a topic of some interest to me, as I would like to port a few
more network drivers to Haiku in the coming weeks/months - but I'd
like them to work well if I do ;) Note that while i'm not a
software-development idiot, I don't have a lot of experience with
C/C++ or low-level driver stuffs.
