Just to bring everyone up to date.
Check out the latest source and you'll have code that can actually be built,
installed and then after a reboot you'll have the start of a network stack
running in the kernel. You'll also have a libnet.so that can be used to
connect to it and create/close sockets. There's even a test app that you can
run that will show you how many sockets it can try and create per second. :)
Yes, it all works and on my machine the test app has been run for over
200,000 sockets and the stack hasn't crashed once, so I guess the earlier
glitches have been removed (thankfully!!).
Now we have a basic structure we can all work with.
Next step is to get the remaining modules moved to kernel modules and
working with our new architecture. That'll be a big job and so it may take a
few days.
Once that's done then it's a case of trying to flesh out what we have and
figure out how to do everything else.
Cain: were you interested in taking on the ICMP module?
Anyone else want to yell and take on a project? do we have anyone willing to
go through and try to add comments to the code? Yes I know that'll mean
using big, scary CVS, but it's not that hard and the comments are really
needed.
I'll try to revisit the ToDo in the morning and bring it up to date.
