I guess it's the same as with all other interfaces as well. I don't 
have a good idea when to use it, but since it's in the standard, I 
wouldn't question it too much :-)

The userland test server would be the best thing to start with. But 
since we might want to redo/change the architecture, it might be a bit 
too early to start developing this. I guess Philippe is in the right 
position to decide this, though :-)
