Sez you. Last time I checked, the person who wrote that code left the
project, and no one else understands it. Whether the R1 stack will be
BSD-based or not depends on the person who actually codes it, non?

This I wholeheartedly agree on, but:

So why has OpenBeOS its own kernel? The BSD kernel is a proven one, and
so is the Linux one. Still, there was reason enough not to use those
kernels and "roll our own" instead. The same could, and probably does,
apply to the net stack.
