About Network preferences features, having "settings profiles" support is
something I'll like to see, as this feature of Boneyard is really cool: I've a
profile "default" and another one "OBOSnet_test", on which I've disable
all interface. By a simple "switch" button press, I can quickly switch in
test mode or user mode... :-)
However, I don't like the way Boneyard show this support in a
separate tab, as if it was yet another Network settings tab itself.
IMHO, it should be moved to front main window,
via a popup/groupbox for example.
Okay, let's all have fun with my newest GUI ASCII screenshot ;-) :
-- Settings: <current> ------------------
| __________ ____________ __________ |
| | identity | interfaces | services | |
| |---------- -----------| |
| | | |
| | interfaces list & options | |
| | ... | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| ----------------------------------- |
| [Save] [Rename] [Delete] |
| [Copy As] [Set as default] [Activate] |
|_______________________________________|
[Restart network stack]
The "Settings:" popup could look like:
New...
--------------------
<current>
On the road again!
x OBOS net test
dialup only
This "settings profile" could let you:
- define the boot-time default network settings to use
- define any network settings profiles you may want (key = profile name)
- switch the current network settings to any other settings profile, on-the-fly
- make backup of network settings
Just a bag of ideas...
