I have no idea if any of the things these guys are planning/doing for Linux
maybe helpful for OpenBeOS Mediakit people, but i thought i'll let you know.

What about Transors?
"Transors", a codec-interface specification apparently being developed in
conjunction with the MCF specification, have just recently come to the
attention of the UCI project developers. We are currently contacting those
working on this project to discuss whether a joint effort would be
appropriate and feasable. It appears that transors have some slightly
different goals and approaches than those of UCI, and thus may have
different advantages/disadvantages for different applications. Again, we are
optimistic that the two projects can actually work well together and even
complement each other down the line.
