[openbeos-preferences] Re: Calculator

I do think the standard distro should have a calculator
included. It is a basic use of a computer system (witness
all the calculator apps people have created). 

We could either include a simple calculator like you 
describe, much like Palm includes with Palm OS. Or we
could write one like the one supplied by Handspring for
their tweaked version of Palm OS. On the surface it is 
a simple calculator. But with a nice dropdown interface,
you can access advanced functionality, grouped logically
into these functions: Math, Trig, Finance, Logic, Statistics,
Weight/Temp, Length, Area, Volume. The calculator number
buttons and basic functions remain, while the surrounding
function buttons change based on the selection made in the
dropdown. Not only can someone do more advanced math, but
conversions as well. One of my favorite Palm apps, actually. :)

If we go this route, we'd probably do best to look for a
BSD-based calculator already written with this functionality,
and port it / tweak it for BeOS. I'm sure there are many to
choose from on Bebits, but I don't know if any are BSD'd.
