> A newly created working group of more than 20 federal departments and
> agencies is holding a series of community meetings around the country
> this month to solicit comment on improving disaster management.

> ìWe are committed to ensuring a more resilient nation in which
> individuals, communities and the economy can adapt to changing
> conditions and rapidly recover from disasters of all kinds,î Homeland
> Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said.

> The Long Term Disaster Recovery Working Group is cochaired by
> Napolitano and House and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.
> The group will use the information it receives from first responders,
> nonprofits, childrenís services groups and other stakeholders to
> develop new federal guidance for emergency management services across
> the country.

> ìThe stakeholder meetings ensure that the vital voices of disaster
> recovery professionals and stakeholders are heard as we move forward
> to improve disaster recovery efforts,î Donovan said.

> The group has visited New Orleans and New York and will hold forums
> in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and Memphis on Nov. 17, 19 and 23,
> respectively.

> Those who canít make the meetings will have the opportunity to comment
> online at www.disasterrecoveryworkinggroup.gov.
