Hi Everyone,
It is that time of the fall when I come to OBOL looking for some volunteer help
on routes that I have vacancies :) As most of you probably know, this project
is sponsored each winter by the East Cascades Audubon Society chapter in Bend,
OR. We will be starting our 13th winter of surveys pretty soon with over 280
routes in play covering more than 16,000 miles of transects that will be
surveyed monthly from December through February by more than 200 project
volunteers. The project covers all of Oregon, most of Idaho, the Columbia
River portion of WA, and the CA portion of the Klamath Basin.
The purpose of this posting is to make everyone aware of the following routes
that need help:

Obviously, most of these routes are in out of the way locations from population
centers which creates issues for coverage :) If anyone is interested in doing
one of these routes, I would be happy to get you set up for a winter of chasing
birds of prey :) Requisites for the effort include having at least a good pair
of binoculars to use (spotted scopes would greatly enhance your efforts but are
not mandatory to do a route), a basic knowledge of raptor ID, ability/desire to
drive in winter conditions, and a desire to be a part of a very large citizen
science project to determine wintering raptor use in the project area. If this
sounds like something that you would like to do, please contact me soon as the
survey season is close at hand and I want to spend some presurvey time getting
you up to speed on what you will be doing. Hope to hear from anyone
interested, I can pretty much guarantee that you will enjoy your efforts plus
have something to look forward to each month during the winter doldrums :)
