While parked in the large open area on the southwest side of the Vaughn Mill
complex, I was counting the swallows as they glided around. One suddenly
appeared that stuck out as distinctly different. Its flight consisted of a
rapid series of deep flutters, followed by a bit of gliding, then flutters
again, etc. It was within inches of the Tree and Violet-green Swallows, which
were clearly larger birds. There were not many swallows to look at (~10 or a
little more), which made the Bank Swallow easy to pick out from the "crowd."
The subject bird was brown with white underparts. I got one quick look at the
brown breast band. I hope others get to see this bird.
