[nvda] Re: window-eyes7 beta with scripting

Yep, correct, Jaws is the main target just the same as NVDA becomes the target each and every time anyone says NVDA is free, open source and all that the person needs. Nope, NVDA is not going to be for everybody, neither is Window Eyes but for me on Vista, NVDA does all that I need it to do. And as for the Vista versus Apple fight? To the people that have only heard Vista is crap and not tried it because they heard bad things about it, try it first. While not everybody can, I have built my own computer that is a dual core Intel Wolfdale 3.0 ghz, 4 gigs of memory and 256 mb ATI Radeon video card with 250 gig western digital SATA2 hard drive and 8.1 high definition surround sound with analog and optical digital out. Yep, not your typical 6 year old Windows 98 machine that the blind still tend to get from their local blind agency simply because their agency has no clue. Total cost was $650. For comparable specs on the Mac side I was looking at 1500 to 2000 dollars. Does that make me want to believe the Apple switch ads? Not me says the wise old owl. I can run Mac OS X in emulation just the same as Mac people can run Windows on the Mac. My experience has been that the screen readers that use video hooks and video intercept tend to cause more problems on Vista than ones without. To those that say Vista is slow, try turning off all of the visual effects and bring it to a Windows 98 look, much like the big screen readers asked us to do in XP. XP gained many new computer users and XP was their first version of Windows. They wouldn't know the reports of people trying to upgrade from 98 to XP and hearing about the slow down problems and driver issues people had with XP. They also wouldn't know about how unstable the first releases of XP were because it was so much more complex than 98. Many people have joined NVDA in its later stages and don't remember the original reasoning of why Mick programmed NVDA. NVDA came to be because of Mick and others that had gotten tired of paying for expensive screen readers and no longer wanted to. To tell you the truth, I still don't want to and because of NVDA and Vista, I don't have to. A couple of years ago, everybody had to. The people that are tired of being called a niche market and or can't afford Window Eyes, no matter how many features they add are the main users of NVDA. Now while I applaud GW Micro for adding a scripting engine, it is a feature that is about 7 years overdue. But their are those people that didn't have a computer 7 years ago so I guess it would seem amazing to them. However, I know that OS scripting and macros have been around since about 1996. That is when I got my first Windows 3.1 computer, turned it on, watched it boot up, took one look at it and went, hmmm, now what do I do with it? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Gaff" <bglists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

When I listened to the program on acb yesterday, a number of queries came up which might have involved discussion of nvda, but did not as it happened, though the Shark was discussed. # One of the items was Firefox, and a comment about the lack of access to the raw data. I seem to recall that nvda can do this and wondered if Mozilla might be being less than helpful to other screenreaders.

I agree, no need for rudeness, as I was considing posting these comments. If nobody was interested, they only need to not respond and that would be that. Instead, people are rude and this gets my back up big time!

How about we do this? let the list owner do his job. While I agree josh
should have not posted this information to this list I don't see any reason
why he should be treated rudely etc.

It is up to the list owner to take any action they might see fit. Hth
