Sadly, there was no joke to my message. I am an assistive technology
specialist and one of the other specialist in our department (fully sighted
specialist) has made it very clear on numerous occasions that he would not
recommend or use any freeware. In his opinion if it is free it is junk. Thus,
when I told him about Thunder and NVDA he had no interest because they were
free.
I keep thinking about the folks he meets with that do not qualify for financial
assistance from the state that he could tell about NVDA, and that it might just
be the answer for those folks gaining access that they could not afford.
So, if there were a, so called, professional version with a price tag then
maybe he would at least take a look and try it out. It is just plain
frustrating that sighted folks make these kinds of decisions that hamper blind
folks from gaining access to products like NVDA.

: Ok. I'm not sure if this email was a joke or serious. If it was a joke,
: then disregard this email. :)
:
: Without meaning to be too harsh, that is an incredibly narrow minded
: opinion. Frankly, if someone refuses to use NVDA because it is free,
: then that is their loss.

second version of the software. There should be an NVDA Pro for those people
who just don't think that they can lower themselves to use free software.
: Imo, this goes against all the principles of NVDA and NV Access. Don't
: get me wrong - I'd be quite happy for people to donate thousands of
: dollars to NV Access if they wish. However, doing what you suggest is
: totally unethical imo.
