DCM is an industry standard agreed upon, among others, by Microsoft.
Granted, but every AT still needs to have its own intercept driver. Aside from duplication of effort, this presents a challenge for portable screen readers. A better system would have been to have a single, public API which allows for the retrieval of display information, including an appropriate event mechanism.

There is no such standard for display hooks.
Again, granted, but at least they can be portable.
