[nvda] Re: the most recent version

Are we far away from the next full release of nvda?
There are several problems with an NVDA release at the moment:
* Some of the functionality present in 0.5 is broken in trunk. For example, the IE support in 0.5 is probably quite a bit better than that found in trunk. This is because the new virtual buffers are not yet complete, but there's little point in maintaining the old code. Even once the new virtual buffers are complete for Gecko, it will be some time before IE support is implemented again. We don't want to end up with a situation where we regress in functionality in a new release. * Unfortunately, there have been a staggering number of improvements since 0.5, but the above point defeats this. * It is difficult to determine where to 'draw the line'. Most people seem to be mostly happy with the state of trunk, but it's hard to determine where we should decide that a release should be made, given the constant flux in trunk. * A minor 0.5 release is probably pointless because of all of the vast changes in trunk.

I suspect all of this will become alittle clearer once the new virtual buffers are complete for both Gecko and IE, as web browsers are an extremely important part of the computing experience now. Unfortunately, that is quite a while off yet. Until then, a release is probably unlikely.
