First of all svchost.exe itself is not a virus. That particular file has to
do with your network stack. Second you won't be able to get NVDA or Jaws to
speak in safe mode because what safe mode is, is a mode that runs windows
with minimal drivers and sound is not one of them. If your anti virus is
flagging a virus then it may be helpful to look in your anti virus program's
virus vault and get the name of the virus it has found. In most cases
though once your computer has a virus loose on it, it is best practice to
eventually go ahead and reformat. That mainly depends on the type of virus
though. For future reference a program I might recommend to everyone on the
list is called nLite. nLite is a program that can help you to create a self
installing unattended XP or Vista disk. It does require that you have an
actual XP or Vista install disk in order to create one though. Not exactly
sure how accessible it is with NVDA but the accessibility is pretty good
using Jaws. I do like my unattended XP disk. It does take the nightmare
and fear of a crashed OS away for a blind person because all I have to do is
put the disk in, restart the computer, press enter and in a bit of time I
have a nice new reformatted machine.

Subject: [nvda] safe mode and NVDA
Hi,
I have a problem. last night when I was done taking on skype in a phone
conversation I had jaws running and jaws would not talk. so I tried system
resotre, nothing, reparing jaws, nothing not even eloquence in the jaws
installer would talk. So I now have NVDA in the startup menu and am useing
NVDA to do things but I'd like my main screen reader jaws back! I found
there is c:\windows\config\svchost.exe virus and I cannot delete it and it
won't let me end the process. McAfee flagged it as a virus but nothing
could be done about it by McAfee. Is there a way I can boot right into DOS
or safe mode and run NVDA and get rid of this thing? NVDA's an excellent
screen reader but I realy need jaws back. And I don't appreciate unknown
people sending me viruses over skype!
I also have spybot search and destroy. will that work with NVDA and maybe
get rid of this svchost thing?
