Well i can direct you in how to disable them in Tortoise SVN but it may
require that you use jaws first. In whatever folder you want, press your
applications key, find the funky tortoise SVN sub menu and go in there. Once
in the sub menu you may be able to just press S to enter the settings for
Tortoise, but if not you may have to use Jaws to get it to read the menu
entry. Once in there I arrowed down to look and feel in the settings. I
changed these 2 things and it worked for me. In the main look and feel
tree, I checked the enable accelerators on the top level menus checkbox. In
the icon overlays part of the tree view, I checked the checkbox that says,
show overlays only in explorer. For me that has made the context menu for
tortoise SVN readable.

Hello,
Can you direct me how to disable these icons in tortoise SVN and some
readings about the registry to disable others? I would like to try
tweaking my system if it's doable.
Thanks
Peter

With a bit of investigation, I found that it is possible to disable such
icons, the problem is, it is by an application by application basis.
Some programs may have an option to disable such icons like Tortoise SVN
but some may not like the open with sub menu, but from what I have
gathered it is possible to disable them if you know where to look in the
registry.

unfortunately none that I know of, unless there is a registry entry that
can be changed to do it. But I have never heard of one.

Does unchecking the checkbox "show small icons in task menu" help any
with this? I just checked a ransom context menu in windows explorer
and did not have the problem but with one contenxt menu entry that was
for scanning with spyware terminator.
Is there an option anywhere in windows to turn off those grapics in
menus globally?
Thanks much.

Yeah that is a known problem with Microsoft MSAA itself, Narrator

comes from a little picture icon that programmers like to place before
the text in a menu item. The way that screen readers like Jaws etc.
get around this problem is by using either display hooks or, API
hooks.

I don't remember if I'm using rev1022, anyway this is the latest
trunch available.
I've a problem with menus:
if I am in a folder, and I make right click to bring up the context
menu for a file, NVDA reads only some items.
In particular, if I select "open with", NVDA tells 1 of 8, 2 of 8,
and speaks only the item "program" 6 of 8.
here is an example with a doc files:
this may changes from pc to pc because anyone has his applications
installed, but just to give an idea:
file test.doc. I make a right click:
Open 1 of 22.
print 2 of 22.
check test.doc 3 of 22 (this is avast).
5 of 22.
open whith submenu.
submenu.
winrar submenu.
send to submenu.
cut 15 of 22.
copy 16 of 22.
create link 18 of 22.
rename 19 of 22.
delete 20 of 22.
properties 22 of 22.
is it clear?
