Just turn off speech by pressing insert + s. That option toggles between
speech mode talk, speech mode beeps and speech mode off. When nvda is set to
speech mode off, you won't have speech anywhere untill you don't turn it on
again.

Hello,
I use Eclipse Reader to read the RFB&D encrypted books. It is totally
self-voicing. There needs to be a way to shut up NVDA while in that
application. All the menus are read twice, once by NVDA and once by
Eclipse
Reader itself. You can turn the recorded voice of the menus from Eclipse
Reader off in Eclipse Reader. While reading the book, NVDA is silent and
this is fine. There are hot keys for almost everything so if you can
remember them you don't have to use the menus much at all. This is a very
workable solution.

Subject: [nvda] questions from a Linux geek, and new-user intro
Hi all,
I haven't used any form of Windows for over 7 years now; I have been
and will remain a Linux person. However, I'm planning to install
Windows on a laptop for the following reasons.
* The web is becoming all but inaccessible to the text-mode browsers
that I know and love.
* I am a computer science major, so I should have at least some
familiarity with the OS that runs on most PCs.
* Finally, RFB&D is requiring that all its users go digital. Of
course, there is no Linux software that can cope with their encrypted
talking books, as far as I can tell.
So I've made up my mind to put Windows on at least one of my machines.
Here are my questions. How well does NVDA work with console
applications? I'd like to be able to use cygwin or mingw32, and
possibly even Microsoft's command-line compilers.
Second, has anyone here listened to RFB&D digital talking books under
NVDA?
