[nvda] Re: pocket thunder and pocket NVDA

the way I understand how PyCe works is that you have to run PyCe or python mobile on the PDA itself. So unless there's some kind of emulator that can be used NVDA would probably have to be ported to visual basic. I also did a google for python to visual basic and python to c# and there are programs that'll take your python code and convert it into visual basic code.

Hi Josh and all,

These are all good ideas about porting NVDA to Pocket PC - I have had quite a bit of interest from others for this to happen.

However, I am currently trying to spend my time on the normal PC version of NVDA, fixing bugs and adding new features to enable blind uers to be at least able to use Windows for no more cost than a sighted person.

Of course if anyone is interested in starting a Pocket PC port of NVDA, lots of power to you. I am willing to help out in a small capacity, but I would like to primarily work on NVDA at this point in time.

I like the idea about the Pocket PC Wiki entry, anyone is able to create articles, but we would ask that you please create a user name and log in before you write any articles.

I'm sorry if I came across as demanding. I didn't mean to sound that way. I just thought it was a great idea and perhaps in my eagerness and my imagination taking flight I may have come across as demanding. But think about it, a free screen reader, maybe two freeware screen readers for pocket pc. It'd be wonderful and allow any blind person who wanted a note-taker to be able to finally have one. I'm not demanding this. I'm just realy eager and I think this can be done. I'm eager to see it happen and to buy a pocket pc, put pocket NVDA or thunder on it or both, and use them.

Sure. As I say, it's a great idea. All I was trying to point out is that you should be aware that there are other priorities, especially because writing support for another architecture involves money. You probably didn't mean to do so, but you came across as being very demanding of others when you are very much aware of how difficult such things can be, particularly with regard to buying new hardware and software. I know you're probably just eager.

oh I understand you completely on that point also! pc apps will not run on windows mobile if you put them on there and try and run them! the arkitecture is different. I'm saying that by looking at pocket python code I think this project would be possible or maybe visual basic vb.net. And if it succeeds it would allow tons and tons more blind people to afford notetakers. I think mick has done a great job with NVDA and the folks have done a great job with their free screen reader, thunder. And writing these free basic screen readers for pocket pc would be wonderful! Every blind person who got $50 a month or more, or who got birthday or christmas money could afford a note taker! In addition pocket NVDA could be ported to languages like spanish and german and others, making it possible for blind people in other countries to have a high quality note-taker for a very affordable price. And if they couldn't afford it, a friend in the U.S. could buy them a PDA burn pocket NVDA or thunder or both pocket screen readers on cd and send them a nice notetaking solution. A laptop computer is out of my pricerange. But a PDA is not. Now if only I, and other blind people, had the screen reader or screen readers.
