Hi, Simon,
Yes, I've found that so long as the PDF document is properly formatted in
the first place, I can indeed read it with NVDA. Tonight, I went to look at
a PDF, then Adobe Reader decided to update itself, then ZoneAlarm said do
you want this updater to go on to the Internet. Do you ever wish you hadn't
started something??
Anyway, the point is that I was using NVDA 0.5 for the whole thing and I
could follow it all perfectly OK. In particular, those ZoneAlarm alerts can
be pretty tacky, but NVDA gave me the shortcut keys and the name of the
program that was trying to access the Internet, and I could make sense of
it.
Excellent stuff, as you say. Things are going very well with this project!
There are problems with some PDF files because they are either a collection
of graphics pages, or they have not been formatted in a proper sequence.
Some of Adobe's own aren't too good! But all screen readers have trouble
with these files. Unless you can hook up to OCR or seomthing, they always
will be problematic, I suspect.
Vince.

Subject: [nvda] pdf support? only 1 day!
Yesterday I posted a thread on pdf support for NVDA, and it was only to
know
the state of things on that.
Today, I downloaded emails and I find that ... NVDA reads pdf document! Ok
ok, it is only the beginning, we have virtual buffer to rewrite etc etc,
but, it is a great improvment on my opinion and a signal that when it is
possibile, actually developers are working hard and well. Congratulations!
