Yeah, but turning on classic stuff removes the extra capabilities, like
searching from your start menu or Windows Explorer.

hmmmph.
its a pitty ms have removed the classic start menu.
Thats one drawback to win 7 that I will probably not upgrade.
I like classic start menu because all the fluff etc is removed.
Saying, I wander just how customisable things are.
I mean if I can make my start menu look like classic by turning things on
and off same with the desktop I may just like it.
same with control panel.

Yes Windows 7 is quite stable and definitly faster than Vista, and this is
the first version of Windows where all of my devices wher detected
automatically after the installation. However, Windows 7 is a little
harder for us blind. Why? Because Microsoft got rid of classic start menu,
and most blind users, even sighted persons like to use classic start menu.
Also they replaced control panel's list view with links, but fortunately
you will be able to use first letter navigation even with this new method.
System tray icons are turned off by default except system icons like
volume and network, but you can customize them and make your choice what
should and what shouldn't be displayed on the notification area. I like
new homegroup sharing in Windows 7 and the ability to pin your favorite
programs to the taskbar, and new jump lists in the start menu and the task
bar that are also accessible with NVDA. Desktop gadgets will also work,
NVDA even tracks changes with CPU meter gadget
when
CPU usage status changes, but you need to press NVDA+Up arrow to hear the
changes. It will work better I hope when MSHTML Virtual buffers will be
rewritten for NVDA.

Hello,
Well, I'm using Windows 7 build 7000 right now. I have currently
installed NVDA only, R2621 Trunk and it works well with a few ishues:
1. Windows Explorer items double speeking - for example it says users
users, windows windows, program files program files etc. everything
doubled. The new type of control in Windows 7 explorer is named "items
view list", not "folder view list".
2. Windows 7 calculator is not supported by NVDA, and that's very
interesting, because Narrator works with it.
These are only a few ishues I experienced whyle playing with and testing
Windows 7. Also, User Account Control will speak now with NVDA, but only
if you go to User Accounts and set User Account Control slider to 34%.
Then it will be less annoying and will be spoken with NVDA.

Hi developers,
I want to ask you for supporting this new operating system.
Will nvda work under this windows?
On 7th january, the official beta version of windows 7 will be released
for public testing. I want to try this system, because there is a lot
of positive information about it on the internet. Especially its quick
reactions and runing on slower machines without any problems.
Thanks for your answer.
Best regards and happy new year!
