[nvda] Re: nvda and irc

I have not used mirc with nvda. Since jaws needs scripts to automatically read mesages in mirc, I wonder how well nvda will deal with the screen in mirc as it lacks the mouse cursor emulation for reviewing the screen that both jaws or win eyes provide.

I would suggest that you try Miranda IM For irc. nvda wil notread messages automatically but it does work well with miranda in that you can tab into chat history and read out the messages with the system cursor. If you desire or require automatic reading of messages, Miranda offers several plugins that will read incoming mesages using sapi speech.

IRc is text chat that predates the www and current instant messaging programs by several years. It allows both group chats on "channels," which is irc's name for chat rooms, and in private messages one on one. A full fledged irc client will also give you file transfers between users.

Giving more tetails on irc would go beyond the scope of this list i am sure. I'll see if I still have a copy of the irc primer to send you off list.

Hello all:
I've been trying to use the irc channel for nvda with chatzilla, a plugin for firefox but everytime I send a message I just sit there, and I'm getting no replies. Obviously someone could be busy or just not online, but I don't think my message is going through. I've been pinging people so I know they're online, so my question is, does nvda announce when someone is sending you a message, for example, jaws used to report that so and so is typing a message. Also, I don't exactly know how irc works, I'm used to Instant messaging and I don't know if they're different. Does nvda report when a person signs on/off?
Thanks for any help
