[nvda] Re: nvda and OCR software

I am simply saying that wherever you are in the world, you need a scanner. Informing people in various parts of the world about which scanners provide free OCR software is a much more effective and constructive solution than using open source software which is not nearly as capable. I make no further assumptions. If someone already has a scanner and needs to use the open source software, then it's good that it exists and that they can use it. But I am now discussing how those who want to use OCR software and do not yet own scanners can avoid this problem. The original question simply asked about free OCR software. I gave my opinion about the program under discussion. I didn't know why the person was asking. I didn't know what specific underlying issues led him to ask about such programs. I answered the question. Before you continue to indulge in your fantasy that I am unaware that people can't afford software, ask yourself the following question: Why am I on this list? I am interested in NVDA because I know that many people can't afford for profit screen-readers. Here again, if you want to continue the discussion, it would be nice if you did so without resorting to direct and indirect criticism of the type you are so eager to engage in. I have no desire to clutter the list with arguments between you and me. If substantive points are raised by you and others regarding OCR software, I'll continue the discussion. I have no interest in debating whether I am an insensitive rich American who has no concern about others' needs. I wouldn't be on this list if that were the case. I've said all I am going to say regarding my concern or lack thereof. It is not relevant to this list. I expect that most people on the list are capable of buying scanners. Since I had no way to know why the person was asking the question, I answered in that context. Now that I know the context is not what I thought, as I said I would respond differently. No context was provided in the original question.
