Del, but I might be getting a new one this weekend.

I use a Dell too. You can use the numpad by holding down FN with the keys below. FN should be the key to the right of your left control key.
m is numpad 0
j, k and l are numpad 1, 2 and 3
u, i and o are numpad 4, 5 and 6
7, 8 and 9 are also numpad 7, 8 and 9
slash is numpad plus
semi-colon is numpad minus
p is numpad multiply
0 is numpad divide
Note that holding down FN with these keys is pressing them with numlock off, which is what you want for NVDA. If you enable numlock (which is FN+f3 on my machine), numlock is turned on, but note that you then don't have to press FN; it is just locked. You turn off numlock to return the keys to their original state. I actually find this really irritating; there is no way that I have found to have numlock enabled but only when the keys are pressed with FN. Toshiba notebooks have full numlock off, half numlock off, full numlock on and half numlock on modes, which is much nicer. Fortunately, you rarely have to turn numlock on (no Windows screen reader I know accepts commands with numlock turned on).
