I know of a few people who specifically like to use the numpad for entering
numbers. I don't use it personally but I can understand why others might.
It's interesting to note that Speakup used to disable the numpad and the
ability to use it was put in, which suggests there must be some demand for
it.
And yes, num lock is on when you can enter numbers.
