This error occured on Cnet sign up form after entering a username which was in use and turning off the passthrough and cursoring to the password . I was not aware the username was in use so I guess the screen was changing as I was moving. Once the username was accepted, the protected field for the password had to be accessed by insert spacebar, not enter.
