Aside from getting prompts at the login screen dealing with logging in, if an error occurs at any time before you load NVDA and you don't have a screen-reader running, you won't know what the error is. Whether you have to login or not, it is a much better idea to have a screen-reader run at bootup than not have one run and manually run it. Even if you put NVDA in the startup folder, it won't run as soon as JAWS does in the bootup process and thus you may be unaware of error messages or be unable to read them if you are.

Oh yes, you can certainly do that, but you'll get no prompts at the logon screen because NvDA still cannot run as a service.

Hope that hlps,
Orhan.

Hi,

You can turn off automatic start JAWS feature and just start using NVDA after you log on to Windows, but you'll need to make a shortcut to NVDA in your startup folder.

Hi, everyone. I have Jaws but I will use NVDA more. How do I make it the default screen reader? Thanks very much for your help.
