[nvda] Re: don't like the new beta

Yes, I was trying to help him preserve it though so we could maybe see what was in it.

control+escape for the start menu, p for programs, n for nvda, e for
"Explore User Configuration," press end key.
NVDA.ini is the last file.
Press delete key, then restart NVDA.

Good luck!

Brian, you made several points, and now that i've started writing i've
forgotten what i was going to say.
as far as screens poping up, how would i know if the screenreader
doesn't read them?
what i can tell you is that i've always had securitty warnings,
usually the UAC, but i've always had thoes and they've never been a
problem before especially as i've got in to the habbit of completely
egnoring them.
they always end with the message: "click this help balloon to solve
this" or something on thoes lines.
but i've never found out how to click these so called help balloons,
and if i did, all it would do is turn my UAC back on which i don't want.
i'm now going in to windows explorer to see if i can hunt down this
NVDA ini file - and when or if i should ever find it, i'll press the
delete key on it and see if that improves matters.
well theres nothing quite like an adventure is there.
wish me luck - cheers - Ron

Yes I do that with the view menu as well.

Is your machine sluggish in use at all?

cheers Vince
it really is the erra sound, known in music circles as the devils
interval.
when i first downloaded NVDA i set caps to beep rarther than say caps
every time it encounters a capital lettre, so i am fmilia with it.

i also have my emails set to plain text, but if theres a very long
link i want to click on, i need to convert it in to HTML from the
view menu.
thanks again anyway - Ron

Ron, maybe you've got the option "Beep for capitals" checked. That
would give you beep noises as you type NVDA. If you don't like that,
you can uncheck it by getting up the NVDA menu, going to Preferences,
then Voice Settings and tabbing through until you find it.

Hopefully that helps with that bit, at least.

By the way, I have all my emails in so-called plain text in Windows
Mail, and I still get active links.

 Vince.

every one else seems to favour this new beta - i must be the only
one who doesn't like it.
i downloaded it quite a while ago, but after listening to the
favourable review on blind cooltek, i disided to go ahead and install.
first of all, i get a lot of NVDA erra sounds when there doesn't
seem to be any erra's.
for example, typing the letters n v d a in to the to field of this
message produced the erra sound for each letter.
however, my biggest bug bare is that newly opened windows are not
spoken - you're left waiting for something to happen.
eventually, alt tabbing round finds the open window.
in the previous release, not only did it speak the open window,
you were taken to it as well.
an example of this, is when you elect to read an email in HTML so
you can click on any links it contains.
so you select the option from the view menu in the message pane,
and wait and wait and wait and wait.
when you've had enough of the waiting game, alt tab round to find
it waiting for you.
obviously, logic dictates that you've been waiting for it longer
than its been waiting for you.
am i the only one with these problems with the new beta?
   cheers - Ron
