Good point, I'll check later on. I did forcibly terminate it once but I got
in such a muddle I don't think the test was valid.
However what I have just done is this.
I put back 35 last night on this machine, and this morning, I made
downloading and installing 39 the first thing I did after boot up, and
checking the directory after uninstall, some folders were there, an ini file
but not Python, so I continued the install and rebooted and all was well. It
could well be that the service is faster to stop at the start when there is
less clutter and other bits in the system, though its really hard to say if
this is the problem as Windows varies so much in its timings of doung
things, it could be just a lucky accident that it worked!
Maybe give it a bit more time and see if it stops it happening?

Did you check whether the NVDA service was still running? The
uninstaller should stop this, but I'm beginning to suspect that maybe it
doesn't wait long enough before assuming it has stopped.
