[nvda] Re: accessing NVDA through the run dialogue box

There are certain folders the run dialog looks at without typing a path. I don't know which folders those are. You can identify at least one of them by finding out which folder Wordpad is located in. Because you can type Wordpad in the run dialog and press enter to open the program, we know that the folder containing Wordpad is accessed by the run dialog. You could then place the portable version of NVDA in that folder. Or, if the installer for NVDA allows you to specify the location where the program is installed, you could specify that it be installed to that folder. but your question causes me to wonder if you know how to create shortcuts. Using the run dialog has no advantage over a shortcut and, in fact, requires more time and work to run a program. I can run NVDA simply by using a short cut I assigned, in my case, I used control alt shift n. I would have simply used control alt n but I previously assigned it to Narrator. If you don't know how to create short cuts easily, I did a presentation on the subject of short cuts for Accessible World. If interested, I can provide the download link.

Could I ask why through run, and not just a shortcut hotkey like right alt and n? You could hide the desktop icon etc if you did not want people to know it existed.

I'm just trying to think of a fool proof way to do it through run. Unfortunately Run is basically Explorer and allows you to browse for files, but do you mean just typing it in from anywhere? I guess you caould add your nvda folder to the path, I'm not sure if it would work though.

Hello, Thanks for responding. Can you tell me how this can be done?
e.g. where is the default folder that the run dialogue box uses, and
such details?

Thanks

Ravi Paul

Surely you could just shove a shortcut to nvda in the default folder used by

Subject: [nvda] accessing NVDA through the run dialogue box

Hello there, I was just curious if there was a way to access NVDA
through the run dialogue box. I mean, not by typing the path, e.g.
"C:\program files\nvda\nvda.exe", but by another way. such as "NVDA".
hope I make sence...

Thanks
Regards
Ravi Paul
