That will work, and, FWIW, I think that if you leave MS narrator running when you turn the computer off, it will in fact run during the logon process.

I am pretty sure this happens on windows XP, and know that even on the logon screen, if you hit windows key + U it will in any case start there already.

Janet,

You can copy the NVDA program shortcut into your Startup folder, and then NVDA should start when the desktop starts, but not in the logon screen.

If you want more details about getting the shortcut into startup, please just ask. It's a frequently asked question on this list.
