[nvda] Re: Virtual Buffers in NVDA

If you are talking about the MSAA buffer used with Internet Explorer and a
few other applications, the system is going to be rewritten. People may
not be commenting on it because they are waiting for the new version.

I've just begun to play with version 0.5 and see that a number of
improvements have been made. I'll briefly mention that on my windows XP
machine, using IE6, the new search command for use with the MSAA buffer
doesn't work properly in Internet Explorer version 6. I haven't tried it
anywhere else. I get not found results most of the time and when
something is found, it is not the item I am looking for even if the word
or string is found. Is this feature supposed to work with IE6 or only
IE7?

Regarding the new default voice, I hate to say it, but I think it's
considerably worse than the Microsoft voices. It sounds like something
out of Doctor Who only worse. Perhaps there aren't any good freeware or
open source voices, I haven't looked into this at all. Returning to the
subject of the Internet, something has been changed in the code that now
allows NVDA to work properly with Webbie. Since the MSAA buffer still has
serious problems, mostly the slowness of loading ant, on my machine, the
find command not working properly, Webbie is a very good alternative and
I'm glad it works now. I could now, if I knew someone who was looking for
a free screen-reader for common tasks, recommend that they try and
seriously consider NVDA. Until now, I couldn't have done so. I'm pleased
to see how improved NVDA is in this version compared to the last one. If
this sort of progress continues, it will turn into a nice program.
