[nvda] Re: User Account Control (UAC) in Vista with NVDA

With UAC turned on, what happens with NVDA is:
The UAC dialog comes up asking if you want to continue, and then if you say yes, the program gets run as administrator. However, at the same time, the keyboard gets stolen away from NVDA so that the control key, and in fact any other script key no longer works (this includes shutting up speech).
So its not that things become sluggish, but speech is just never interupted.

The only way around this for now is to run NVDA as administrator.
I don't think this is an issue, otherwise you wouldn't be getting the UAC dialogs anyway.

You can go to the context menu of nvda.exe or nvda.pyw (source version) and choose run as administrator. You will have to pass a UAC dialog here as well of course, but after this, NVDA will work fine with any program whether using UAC or not.

However, the initial UAC dialog for any program will still not read. This is an issue with changing desktops and user accounts and fun stuff, which we really just havn't had time to look at in NVDA yet.

Subject: [nvda] User Account Control (UAC) in Vista with NVDA

Hi

If my mail where I talked about this was not forwarded to a list, then I need to write it again.

There's a problem where NVDA freezes and becomes sluggish after UAC (User Account Control) prompts in Windows Vista. So, I needed to disable UAC and it makes my computer not secure. So, that's why I suggest to fix the problem with using NVDA with this new Vista feature so it can be used.
Thanks

Regards - Hrvoje
