Yes, it does seem as if its doing its trick of deleting things and living old bits, but if you have cleared everything out then how can it be, unless something very strange is going on in the prefetch routines in Windoze. I'm using the same Os here and its fine. You have not said, but if you unzip the portable version to a folder and run the exe, does it work?

Hi Brian,

I know what you eman - I managed to have 10 nvda icons (perhaps opening
it twice giving me 2 lots of 5!) I have emailed Michael Curran and I am
sure he will get to the bottom of it. I had sent him the ini file and
log and we will wait and see. It is going perfectly on my other machines
with the latest snapshots so I am a little confused as to why this
machine is mucking up!

Thanks anyhow

Actually, its been a lot better at this sorting itself out since the
recent changes, but as i said in my reply, the ini file is hopefully
going to be old if the older version has been run in between.

I do still have the odd problem with nvda no shutting down in the
installer at the start after the first action, but I put this down to
the offending machine being too slow and short of ram. So, the new
version si started before the old one has properly ended.
I had a unique event the other day when a total of five occurences of
nvda launched together at start up, due to some screwed up program I
was trying out. Very interesting to note that they do not all keep up
and work at the same speed. I've never managed to get it to happen since.

Hi,

I Think your NVDA config file is a bit mucked up. We would really like
to solve this issue, as its happened to a few people.

Could you please send me your nvda log file, after trying to run your
installed copy of NVDA?

It can be found by typing %temp% in the Windows explorer address bar
and then pressing enter. (Include the percent signs).
nvda.log should be in that directory.

Note that NVDA overrides this file all the time so you will have to use
another screen reader such as narrator to retreave the file straight
after the installed NVDA has terminated.

It would also be useful if you could send along your NVDA config file,
which can be found in the nvda directory inside your user application
data directory.

Try typing %appdata%\nvda in the Windows explorer address bar and then
pressing enter. nvda.ini should be in that directory.

After sending nvda.log and nvda.ini via email, you can try deleting
nvda.ini, and hopefully your newly installed NVDA should function
correctly again ... if the problem is in deed the one I think it is.

However, for us to solve this problem for the future, we really need to
see both the log file and the config file if that is possible.

I admit trying to find all these files is a bit of work, we may consider
trying to improve this in the near future.

Thanks
Mick

Hi everyone

I have the latest snapshot of NVDA, and when I go to install it, it
comes up with a "stop" sound but no error message on the screen. It
will let me go through the process of installing it, but will not load at all. I even tried uninstalling it, deleting out the old directories
and reinstalling but still no luck.

With having visitors here, I haven't used the computer in over a week,
but up until then it was working perfectly.
My old spare version 0.5 works fine, but I like to test the snapshots and am wondering what else can I check? Are there any other places to
check? I am running Xp pro SP3.

Thanks

critual stops sounds. Then after that it goes to load then dies. is
there a audio file that could be mucking upor files gone astray that I may have to find. It will work if i use my usb stick with nvda on itjk.
I don't know it seem to startup then die

Hi Brian I downloaded the latest snapshot of the portable version and unzipped it to a directory called nvdaportable and extracted the files into that then made a shortcut on the desktop to the nvda.exe file then made shortcut key alt ctrl and p for portable and it works fine that way. I didn't get it to load on startup though but it seems to work fine doing the shortcut key. The installer just bombs out when windows starts. Guess leave a copy there of the portable just in case it happens again.
. Hopefully they can nail the problems in later snapshots
