Hi Jamie,
versionInfo.py becomes hard, because we really have to ask, how is NVDA ever
going to be packaged.
If NVDA is going to be packaged in different languages, as in "click here to
download the Japanese version of NVDA" then it makes sence to translate
versionInfo.py. But, if its more like how it is now "NVDA supports blablabla
languages", then I'd be tempted to keep versionInfo.py as it is.
There are also things like the single letter navigation keys in the
virtualBuffers... h for heading, p for paragraph etc, it is sort of hard to
translate those. The only way would be to have swappable keymaps for
virtualBuffers as well, but you'd have to pick them up by language this
time, rather than by keyboard layout.
I guess all we can do as developers is mark any possible strings that are
translatable, but if there was a large demand for NVDA in a certain
language, then someone who is proficient in Python could hack and package a
specific version for that language.

Hi Mick,
Michael Curran wrote:
I am fine with changing 'NonVisual Desktop Access' to 'NVDA' for both the
window name and the start message.
I guess we all call it NVDA so, I suppose that is what it should be
called.
I'd still include the full name in the about message, though:
NVDA
Nonvisual Desktop Access
Not sure how we'd do that in translation. Maybe:
NVDA
Nonvisual Desktop Access (insert translation here)
Btw, should the strings in versionInfo.py be marked for translation?
