[nvda] Re: Thunderbird, problem with the compose new message. window

Well, if you are so smart, why don't you do it your self. I think that you got the answer from the developers that currently they can't do it because they have the problems with thunderbird and accesibility, but it looks like that you are not happy with the answers. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen" <whocrazy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

But thunderbird is open source as well, so you can still get at the code and find out what needs to be done.

Hi Arnaud,

Unfortunately, we don't have any way of accessing text from Mozilla editable controls. MSAA does not really provide decent support for document objects, so we would have to interface directly with the application and there is no interface we are aware of to achieve this. Maybe we could find a way to make NVDA recognise that the field is editable and thus disable the virtual buffer code, but you still won't be able to read the text. Hopefully, a lot of this will be solved by IAccessible 2 when it arrives.

Don't know if this issue is known already, but with Thunderbird, the compose new message or reply to a message. window is not usable. basically, the screen reader believes that it's a web page, so one can't actually type some text like in an editor and reread it. otherwize, navigation in the Thunderbird software seems to read fine, including message list, etc.
