Eeewww. This is odd. Both Mick and I use Thunderbird full time and don't have this issue. Do you mean the message body when you're composing an email?

I suppose. Could not even figure out how to send an email.
Sending an email is pretty logical; File->New->Message or associated shortcut keys. Explore the menus; you can do pretty much everything in Thunderbird from the menus or the context menus.
