I think it's a bad idea to use save on exit. There is a save
configuration setting in the nvda menu. that means that you can save
the
configuration when you want to save it and also change it in any way you
wish without accidentally saving it in the future. It's far better for
temporary changes and experimentation not to save the setting
automatically on exit. There is such a thing as too much automation
when
working with programs and this is one such example.
This is also an illustration of why you should not learn shortcuts such
as
the control insert g menu before learning the program itself. Open the
nvda menu with insert n. You can use either insert. Look through the
various items in the menu and also in the preferences submenu. Any time
you want to leave the menus without changing a setting, simply press
escape enough times to close the menu or menus. See what sort of
options
and settings are available. Short cuts like control insert g should be
learned only after working with the program in the long thorough manner.
You will see a save configuration item in the NVDA menu. That's what
you
should use when you want to save a setting, not an automated feature
that
risks you saving settings you don't want to save every time you change a
setting in the program and forget to change it back before exiting.

The problem is resolved..
1. I set sync to the 1st option, espeak from none. Clicked on OK
button.
2. I invoke the General Settings by pressing Ctrl Insert G and checked
the check box for 'Save configuration after exit', clicked on OK
button.
Now I'm able to hear the voice / speech of NVDA.
Thanks to Kennydog for showing me the way to resolve the issue.
Thanks and regards,
Silpa.

Thank you, the sync is set to none, I've set to espeak, tabbed to OK
button, but even after that, I'mn't able to hear the voice of NVDA.
Not only this, I pressed Ctrl Insert S again, and to my surprise I
found the option on 'none'. How to change this setting permanently..
is there any other way or any other setting I need to verify / set
to..
And yes when the Windows logo key (Start menu is invoked) is pressed
and when the down arrow key is pressed, I'mn't hearing the voice of
NVDA, but since I've low vision, I can see the dark grid moving from 1
item to another.
Thanks and regards,
Silpa.

Hi
I know if you wanted it to speak the progress updates efor example
when
downloading, use the insert and U key to toogle between none right
through to speaking. If this is done it will say 10 percent etc
instead
of the sounds.
It sounds either like you may not be letting the webpage load and in
that case you will not be able to interact with the web page. So are
you
saying on windows it's self it doesn't even speak the menus when
navigating windows, or reading out emails etc. What synth are you
using? and does it do it when you use e speak? I am wondering if you
have set your synth to none.To check this quickly press the insert
and
ctrl and the letter S to bring up the synth settings. Arrow up or
down
to change the synth to another. It may be set to none so will have
to
be changed, then tab down to ok and hopefully you have it set to save
your settings as well.

Hi
What do you mean by beep sound? Is it when you start nvda up and
it
just makes the sound for it to start up or do you mean when you
say
hit
the windows start key and move up the menus it makes a beep sound.
If
so when you do that use the insert and S key to toogle between no
sound
beeps and talk. Hope this helps.

Hi All:
I installed NVDA 2011.3 on Win 7 64 bit machine.
I am able to hear only the beep sound and not voice of NVDA.
But in the log on screen of Windows, I'm able to hear voice of
NVDA.
What would have been the issue and how can it be resolved.
I uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times, but the same
result.
The same is noticed with NVDA 2011.2
Thanks and regards,
Silpa.
