This functionality should work properly as of r2683.

You might wish to use keyboard help (NVDA+1), which is somewhat less
annoying than always hearing all keys.
Btw, please don't reply to another message and just change the subject
when starting a new thread. Aside from having the old message quoted
below, it breaks threading for those of us who use it. (A message
includes information which tells email clients what "thread" of
conversation a message belongs to.)
