[nvda] Re: Some random thoughts

It does seem that the pane announcement is a bit unneeded if it is not being done for programming reasons. It would seem that as long as NVDA can announce the title bar of what is being opened that would do fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Teh" <jamie@xxxxxxxxxxx>

The pane thing only occurs in the experimental builds and not in the 0.5 snapshots last time I checked. What you are getting with the experimental builds is a build of NVDA with a few focused window classes unfiltered.
Hmm. If they're unfiltered now, it was probably intentional; i.e. we don't just filter stuff out for the final builds. If I remember correctly, NVDA used to say "window" a lot, often unnecessarily, which is what we are trying to fix. Maybe we need to look at silencing a few of the "pane" utterances. This is debatable, though; we speak the role for most controls (button, checkbox, etc.), so really, we should probably indicate panes as well... We do silence list items, of course, but not lists, which is why we can justify this.
